Building the API-Driven TapToGo App for Albert Heijn

TapToGo
SPECTR designed and built TapToGo as a retail application integration solution, connecting business systems, customer data and external sources through secure APIs and microservices. This made it possible to connect a wide range of business systems and data sources while creating a highly scalable foundation. The application was also designed to comply with all relevant GDPR and privacy requirements.

In addition to developing the TapToGo app, SPECTR introduced new integrations with internal and external data sources. By combining information such as train schedules, weather data, shopping history, geofencing, pricing and timing, Albert Heijn gained new opportunities to deliver more relevant and personalized customer experiences.

The Retail Application Integration Challenge
Albert Heijn wanted to combine a wide range of business objectives within one user-friendly mobile application. The solution needed to process customer data securely, comply with GDPR requirements and be delivered within a short timeframe. At the same time, the application had to connect numerous internal and external data sources without adding unnecessary complexity to the existing IT landscape.

Approach
SPECTR took the lead in close collaboration with Albert Heijn and translated the different business objectives into one integrated solution. The application functionality and integration architecture were designed in parallel, which allowed new features to be delivered quickly. Existing systems were connected through secure APIs, while external data sources were added to expand the application’s capabilities and support more relevant customer interactions.

Results
The result was a new application built almost entirely on a microservices architecture, supported by real-time API integrations, orchestration and event-driven communication. Existing systems and applications were reused wherever possible, while all communication between components was secured and encrypted. This created a scalable, flexible and GDPR-compliant foundation for future development and innovation.
